Binzhou University is a regular comprehensive public university affiliated to Shandong Provincial Government. It is located in a modern city with ecological landscape --- Binzhou City, which is the birthplace of Sun Tzu (the well-known Chinese ancient military strategist in the 6th Century B.C.) near the Coast of Bohai Sea and in the hinterland of rich and beautiful Yellow River Delta.
Centering on the constructing high-level application-oriented university with aviation characteristics, the Binzhou University carries out “Five Strategies”, that is, running the university with high quality, strengthening the university with talents, developing the university with own characteristics, invigorating the university with social services and governing the university with harmony so that the prosperous development of various undertakings of the university has been achieved.
The campus covers an area of 131.3 hectares; the university building construction area is 441,000 square meters; the total value of fixed assets is RMB 1.408 billion Yuan. Binzhou University has established 21 experimental centers or laboratories, including 2 provincial-level experimental teaching model centers, and the total value of the facilities and equipment of teaching and scientific research is RMB 160 million Yuan. There are 1.58 million volumes of paper-books, 1.1 million electronic books, more than 2,000 kinds of paper periodicals in Chinese and foreign languages, 28,332 kinds of electronic periodicals and 118 electronic literature databases in the library. Insisting on running the school with high quality and regarding morality education as fundamental task, Binzhou University actively adjusts and optimizes discipline and specialty structure to meet the requirements of profession and regional economic and social development and preliminarily forms the discipline and specialty system of giving priority to Engineering and harmoniously developing Engineering, Sciences, Economics, Management, Liberal Arts, Pedagogy, and Fine Arts. Binzhou University has carried out “Flagship Specialty Construction Plan”and “Applied Specialty Group Training Centers Construction Project”and deepened school-enterprise cooperation and industry-education integration so as to cultivate applied high-grade specialized talents with solid foundation, strong ability, high quality, quick adaptation, sound personality and social responsibility, professional skills, and creative and entrepreneurship ability. Binzhou University has created 54 undergraduate specialties and 27 diploma specialties distributed to 20 colleges or departments, and set up 1 national comprehensive reform experiment undergraduate specialty under Undergraduate Teaching Project, 1 national off-campus practice and education base for university students, 2 provincial-level projects of applied specialty development support plan, 3 Shandong Provincial stage cultivation experiment specialties suited to vocational colleges and undergraduate universities, 2 provincial-level talent cultivation mode innovation experiment sites, 8 provincial-level characteristic specialties and 38 provincial-level fine courses. The passing rate of CET-4 and CET-6 for non-English majors reaches about 90% and 40%; the passing rate of the students who upgrade three-year education to undergraduate education reaches 29.47%; the passing rate of postgraduate examination reaches 43.6%; the initial employment rate of graduates reaches 97.23%. Binzhou University is rated as one of the eight universities that have the top employment competitiveness in Shandong Province. Since 2012, Binzhou University has been successively entitled the “Executing Unit of Innovation & Entrepreneurship Training Project for National University Students”and over 300 projects have been approved, which ranks the top among all the universities in Shandong Province. The students have won 1,166 national projects and awards and 2,997 provincial-level projects and awards in university student discipline competitions and research & training projects, published 867 academic papers and works, and have obtained 159 patents for their inventions. The investigation of MyCOS, a domestic authority, reveals that half year later after their graduation, the students’non-unemployment rate is stable and higher than all the undergraduate universities that don’t belong to “Project 211”in China, and the graduates’assessments of the recommendation level and degree of satisfaction of Binzhou University are all higher than all the undergraduate universities that don’t belong to “Project 211”in China. Making great efforts to develop the education for teachers, Binzhou University was approved as The Second Wave of Provincial Teachers Education Base in Shandong Province in 2012. Binzhou University is the postgraduate joint cultivation base approved by Shandong Provincial Education Department and cultivates postgraduates jointly with Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shandong University.
Binzhou University attaches importance to scientific research and conducts “Top Discipline Construction Plan”and “1355 Scientific and Technological Innovation Project”to continuously strengthen the advantages and characteristics and improve the scientific innovation ability. Binzhou University sets up 2 provincial-level key disciplines, 4 provincial culture and art science key disciplines, 16 university-level scientific research institutes, 1 national-level base for science education, 9 provincial-level key laboratories, research centers or bases, 3 provincial-level bases for social or science education, 3 provincial key university laboratories or bases and 24 municipal-level innovation platforms. Jointing with the developing strategies of “the Belt and Road”, “Two Regions and Rings”and “Strengthening the Nation with Civil Aviation”, Binzhou University actively serves the society and industries, has formulated and conducted “Serving Yellow River Delta Development Action Plan(2016-2020)”and “Serving Civil Aviation Industry Action Plan(2016-2020)”and has signed strategic cooperation agreements with Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, Binzhou Municipal Government, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Shandong University of Technology, Qingdao International Airport, Jinan Airport and Dongying Shengli Airport. Binzhou University adheres to running the school with own characteristics and has created such famous brands as flight technology, Yellow River Delta Ecology, Yellow River Delta Culture , Sun Tzu Culture Research, and so on. Centering on serving the career of Chinese civil aviation, Binzhou University set up the major of Flight Technology and founded Flight College in 2006, which is the first local regular undergraduate university to cultivate pilots in China. At present, Binzhou University has 4 aviation colleges, that is, Flight College, Aviation Engineering College, Airport College and Cabin Attendant College, and 10 aviation specialties, that is, Piloting, Flight Safety, Civil Aviation Maintenance Engineering, Air Traffic Management and Dispatch, Airport Operation and Management, Flight Vehicle Propulsion Engineering, Flight Vehicle Manufacture Engineering and Flight Attendants.
